Job of the Week: Veterinary Nurse

This week’s featured job is a Veterinary Nurse for the College of Veterinary Medicine (job posting 954961). The Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine is the destination for teaching, innovation, care, and service while meeting the needs of society in addition to clinical services and education. The College supports animal health programs conducted by both the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. 

In this position, you will supervise a team of veterinary nurses and assistants within the Academic Programs unit of MSU College of Veterinary Medicine. You will actively interact with and coach students using cutting-edge teaching models, specimens, cadavers, and live animals. Your role is integral to managing the teaching lab facilities, cooperative development, and oversight of proper lab protocols. 

Your success in this role requires but is not limited to, continued development of your knowledge of veterinary medicine, proficiency, and continual refreshing of clinical skills for instruction and coaching students in an engaged, hands-on, and positive environment. You’ll also need skills in handling animals of multiple species, including behavior and restraint, physical examination, and assessment of normal and abnormal conditions.  

The ideal candidate will have two to three years of college, technical, or vocational school with coursework in Veterinary Technology. They would also be licensed as a Veterinary Technician in Michigan or attain licensing within their first year. Work experience would include patient care, surgery, drug dosing, and sterilization. Desired, but not required, qualifications include a Bachelor’s in veterinary technology, experience working with livestock, multi-species animal nursing, and biological sample collection techniques. Job of the Week: Athletic Trainer I – Football

This week’s featured job is an Athletic Trainer I – Football position for MSU Intercollegiate Athletics (job posting 951538). Athletic training is a major specialty in the field of sports medicine where active daily involvement with athletes, patients, physicians, administrators, and coaches affect the safety, well-being, and health care of the competitive and recreational athlete. Through a combination of medical specialists and the active commitment of the athletic trainer, the Sports Medicine and Performance team at Michigan State University covers a broad entity of healthcare.

In this position, you will evaluate injuries to determine referrals as well as design and execute appropriate rehabilitation exercises. You will also educate and counsel coaching staff, athletes, physicians, colleagues, students, parents, media, and consultants. Other responsibilities include organizing and maintaining daily medical records, including daily treatment logs and prescription drug logs using a computerized sports injury management program.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a Master’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field as well as a National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) certification. Three to Five years of related work experience in athletic training or an equivalent combination of education and experience are also required. Previous experience as a Division I collegiate Athletic Trainer or experience as an Athletic Trainer for football are desired, but not required to apply.

Job of the Week: Human Resources Professional

This week’s featured job is a Human Resources Professional for MSU Extension (job posting 946783). MSU Extension helps people improve their lives by bringing the vast knowledge and resources of MSU directly to individuals, communities and businesses. MSU Extension is a large and complex unit with more than 700 employees in 83 counties spread across the upper and lower peninsula of Michigan.

In this position, you will support academic recruiting efforts and act as a liaison between MSU Extension and the central HR team at MSU. This includes coordinating HR processes to support areas, such as recruitment and selection, orientation and onboarding, performance management and development, and employee retention and succession planning. Other responsibilities include assisting in developing plans, objectives, policies, and procedures for department operations, maintaining employee records and ensuring data accuracy in HR systems.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field. One to three years of related work experience in a human resources field or an equivalent combination of education and experience are also required. 

This position requires a service-oriented self-starter whose strengths include problem-solving, the ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment, and the ability to understand and support MSU Extension’s efforts in diversity, equity, inclusion, and Civil Rights. This week’s job of the week is for a Communications Manager I position in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics within the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (job posting 932698). The Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics (AFRE), one of the leading applied economics departments in the U.S., is ranked #1 in the world in the global ranking of agricultural and applied economics departments. The Food Security Group within AFRE is a self-organized team established in the early 1980s that works with local partners in developing countries to carry out empirically based policy-oriented scholarly research, engagement, and capacity-building focused on problems of global food security.

This job includes but is not limited to cooperating closely with the co-directors and other faculty of AFRE’s Food Security Group (FSG) to write, edit, and create materials (including video) on the activities and outputs of grant-funded international projects suitable for a variety of audiences. There is a strong emphasis on digital communications using the web, content management systems, and social media platforms. There is also the opportunity to travel to project sites in developing countries and to engage with communications specialists in partner organizations in those countries.

The desired candidate will be a self-starter with an outgoing personality who feels comfortable positively representing a team. Ideally, this position is best suited for a team player who can also work independently in a fast-paced environment, make sound decisions, and prioritize tasks effectively. Attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills are desired.

You should have knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree in journalism, telecommunications, or public relations. One to three years of experience in public relations, marketing, graphic design, web design, publication production, and social media management is required. A background in social sciences and/or agriculture and natural resources is desired but not required to apply.

Job of the Week: Communication Arts and Sciences Research Administrator

This week’s featured job is a Research Administrator for the College of Communications Arts and Sciences (posting 900683). The College of Communication Arts and Sciences offers world-class training to students through active engagement in translational research that influences health, environment, media, technology, business and public affairs across the nation and around the world.

This position will serve the College of Communication Arts and Sciences by providing backup to the Research Administration Manager, reviewing proposals for completeness and accuracy and evaluating existing policies and procedures to make further improvements. The future Research Administrator will also work with Principal Investigators to establish proposal timelines and review Request for Proposal.

The Research Administrator will also manage departmental research accounts and work closely with the Research Fiscal Officer on expenses, reconciliations and other financial questions/concerns on the accounts that they manage. This position features a hybrid schedule and the selected candidate will be expected to be in the office a minimum of two days per week

Job of the Week: FRIB Operations Accelerator Engineer I / Engineering/Physicist Accelerator I

This week’s featured job is the Operations Accelerator Engineer for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (posting 86055). The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) is a center for researchers at all career stages to make discoveries regarding rare isotopes and nuclear astrophysics and their impact on medicine, homeland security, and industry.

This position will serve the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams by monitoring major facility equipment, responding to emergency situations and operating ion sources, accelerators, and beam transport lines on a rotating shift schedule. The future Operations Accelerator Engineer will also monitor high-power RF machines while assisting physicists in setting up and performing experiments. 

The Operations Accelerator Engineer should have a Bachelor’s degree in Systems or Computer Science, Engineering or Physics. They should also have one to three years of related experience. Recommended skills include the ability to troubleshoot and assess issues, strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft suites.

Job of the Week: Advancement Office Coordinator/ Office Coordinator II

This week our featured job is an Office Coordinator position through the MSU College of Law Office of Advancement (posting 863014). The College of Law has more than 650 students, 55 faculty members, 50 staff members, five librarians, and a world-wide network of some 11,500 alumni. MSU Law is characterized by an open, collaborative environment, a wide range of hands-on learning opportunities, and an exceptional curriculum for students.

This position will serve the College of Law by providing administrative support, managing data and communication projects and assisting with advancement events. This week, we are featuring a job posting from the Office of Health Sciences for a faculty Healthcare Recruiter (posting 870779). The Office of Health Sciences catalyzes the efforts of all health sciences across Michigan State University by promoting health through patient care, education and research.
