Job of the Week – Project Manager

This week’s job of the week is a Project Manager (#628566) for MSU Information Technology (IT) Services. MSU IT provides the primary leadership for strategic, financial, and policy initiatives affecting information technology across MSU.

This position is responsible for planning and tracking small to medium projects of simple to medium complexity/risk and supporting the academic and administrative business requirements of MSU. Projects will include, but are not limited to, software application development and implementation, infrastructure implementations/installations, process re-engineering, and implementation of process improvements.

The ideal candidate would possess knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in business administration, management or field related to the employing unit; three to five years of related and progressively more expansive work experience in project management leading projects’ experience in project scheduling using a scheduling tool, business analysis, facilitating/training with a focus on business management, workflow process analysis and implementation of strategic initiatives, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Now Accepting Nominations for 2020 Ruth Jameyson Award

Do you know an MSU employee pursuing a post-baccalaureate degree while continuing to go above and beyond in their work and studies? MSU is currently seeking nominations for the Ruth Jameyson “Above and Beyond” Award through Friday, January 17, 2020.

This annual award recognizes a support staff member who most closely exemplifies the contributions, personal characteristics, and commitment to MSU demonstrated by Ms. Jameyson. In recognition of Ms. Jameyson’s own pursuit of a graduate degree while working at MSU, nominees must be pursuing a graduate degree at MSU or elsewhere concurrent with their employment at MSU. The recipient will be honored at the Distinguished Staff Award Reception in May.

Individuals may be nominated by any member of the university community (colleague, administrator, faculty, support staff, student). A nominee must be a regular, active employee with at least five years of service to MSU in a support staff position.

Job of the Week – GIS Analyst

This week’s job of the week is a GIS Analyst (#626638) for MSU’s Information Technology Services, specifically for the IT Services Analytics and Data Solutions department. This position is seeking an individual with experience with typical mapping and GIS applications to assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the spatial data infrastructure.

The responsibilities for this role include assisting users to troubleshoot and resolve problems with spatial systems, preparing related documentation, and maintaining and validating the data integrity and accuracy of the spatial data infrastructure. Additional responsibilities for this role include participating in the development of long-range planning goals, monitoring the spatial data framework and systems, and producing, developing, and delivering map products and related documents as requested.

The ideal candidate would possess knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or related Information Technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in Geographic Information System (GIS) including a good working knowledge of geographic information management and spatial data standards, experience with GIS software and analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job of the Week – Finance Assistant

This week’s job of the week is a Finance Assistant (#625730) for Performing Arts Facilities and Programs. This position is seeking an individual to assist the Director of Finance with daily actions to ensure compliance with the Wharton Center policy and procedures.

The responsibilities for this role include assisting with accounting and payroll responsibilities such as temp/on-call payroll processing, sales revenue deposits, processing accounts payable and receivable, and auditing payroll transactions. Additional responsibilities of this role include organizing monthly packets, printing financial reports for supervisor review, and initiating and processing travel reimbursements and internal billings.

The ideal candidate would possess knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through a high school education; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting, bookkeeping, records maintenance and/or experience in spreadsheet, word processing, and/or database software. The job may require knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical training related to the field of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
