Happy Earth Day! Let’s celebrate by doing our part in helping the planet. Recycling is great, but there’s so much more we can do. Here are some ways you can help our Spartan community go green. Whether you are working from home, heading into the office or any combination, use these great tips and resources to make your lifestyle more sustainable.

MSU Recycling Center always leads the charge for reusable materials at MSU. The center is open seven days a week for dropping off materials. These materials can be anything and everything from books, cardboard, glass, plastics and more. Find their hours along with what and how to drop things off at the MSU Recycling Center website

If you do spend some or all of your workday away from home, consider looking into clean commuting options. You can MSU Bikes offers new and ready-to-ride affordable used bikes for sale plus a full menu of bike repair services with one of the largest workshops in Michigan.  They also rent bikes if you’re needing a bike for a shorter to longer term and don’t want the headache of maintaining a bike or selling it when you leave campus.  MSU Bikes also offers 1-on-1 bike services, like commuter assistance, helping you find the safest, lowest-stress route from your home to campus.  MSU Parking now offers secure covered bike parking and MSU has many DIY repair and air stations in every neighborhood of campus for your convenience.  Full details can be found on MSU Bikes’ website.  

Capital Area Transportation Authority offers multiple clean commute options with travel modes that fit your work hours and location. CATA also offers a commute cost calculator by examining how much money you spend driving and how much you can save by using the bus and other CATA services. Visit the CATA website to learn how to add CATA to your sustainable daily routine. 

Spin electric scooters are the newest addition to clean, affordable, convenient and fun ways to get around campus. These scooters are dockless, so no need to find a charger to pick them up or drop them off. They operate seven days a week during all daylight hours. Job of the Week: Assistant Director, Deputy CISO

This week, we are featuring a posting from MSU Information Technology Services for an Assistant Director/Deputy CISO (posting 855234). MSU IT provides the primary leadership for strategic, financial, and policy initiatives affecting information technology (IT) across MSU.

This position will work within the MSU Information Security Department which manages risks to information systems, responds to incidents, and takes proactive measures to ensure compliance and security throughout the university. The Deputy CISO is responsible for assisting the CISO with the management of relevant information security operations within the MSU IT organization. This includes strategy, personnel, security infrastructure, incident response, policy enforcement, emergency planning, and security awareness. . The future Deputy CISO should have knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree and more than eight years of related and progressively more responsible work experience. Experience leading, managing, and maintaining a Security Operations Center (SOC) function is desired. 

This is a hybrid remote position with some on-site presence necessary, and the successful candidate will be expected to live within commuting distance from MSU’s East Lansing campus.

Job of the Week: Human Resources Generalist

This week, we are featuring a posting from our own department, MSU Human Resources, for a Human Resources Generalist position (posting 855102). Human Resources provides strategic human resources expertise, counsel, support and services for the MSU community.

As a Human Resources Generalist, you will primarily be part of the Solutions Center customer service team, with the possibility of cross-training with other teams. Job of the Week: Health Care Representative

This week, we are featuring a job post from MSU HCI Clinical Services for a Health Care Representative (posting 853334). MSU Health Care is the academic medical center of Michigan State University, providing exemplary care in our communities to support the research and academic missions of MSU Health Sciences. 

The Health Care Representative will work in a variety of roles that combine both direct and indirect patient care duties. They should feel comfortable.performing administrative functions for a clinic or medical office, including registering new patients and scheduling patient appointments. April is Stress Awareness Month! Everyday stress can take an immense toll on our mental health. While all of us experience stress, we all manage our stress differently. It’s essential to find ways to manage stress if we want to maintain our health and wellbeing. To help you make stress reduction a priority this month, MSU Human Resources has compiled this list of MSU campus resources: 

Activities 

  • Wellbeing Wednesdays: The WorkLife Office and Health4U are partnering to bring you Wellbeing Wednesdays. These weekly sessions are focused on wellbeing in its many forms: workplace wellbeing, mental health wellbeing, physical wellbeing, and more.  
  • Join them on April 12 for Art Therapy! Destressing sometimes means unleashing your inner child. This Wellbeing Wednesday will guide you in making some artwork. 
  • Campus Meditation Map: Beal Scholar, Anhad Viswananth, created this incredible meditation map to highlight the best spots to meditate around campus. 
  • MSU Campus Walking Tour: Taking time to be outdoors and exercise is a great way to manage stress. Health4U has provided a campus walking tour with maps of multiple walking paths throughout campus.  
  • Get Active this Spring: Warmer weather on the horizon means more opportunities to get outside! From sailing and stand-up paddleboarding to golf leagues and group fitness classes, there are tons of opportunities on campus and in the greater Lansing community to make exercise part of your weekly routine. Check out these opportunities and consider joining with a friend. 
  • Sleep: Understanding and Optimizing Your Nightly Reboot: Quality sleep is vital for our health, but it isn’t always easy to come by. This class will explore the science of sleep, the impact sleep has on overall health and wellbeing, and how to improve your sleep quality. Join this virtual webinar on April 18 to learn more.  
  • Rest with Music: The MSU School of Music, Abrams Planetarium, and Health4U invite you to take an hour out of your month to listen and simply REST WITH MUSIC. Join in-person at the planetarium or participate via Facebook live.

Job of the Week: Security Operations Coordinator/Crime Analyst

This week, we are featuring a job post from the Department of Police and Public Safety for a Security Operations Coordinator. The Department of Police and Public Safety enforces laws and provides public safety services in an inclusive and accessible manner through outreach, engagement and care to support the Spartan community. 

The Department of Police and Public Safety is looking for an individual to support the MSU DPPS’s Cadet Desk, which is made up of MSU students who are passionate about law enforcement and criminal justice. The Security Operations Coordinator is responsible for managing phone calls and police radio communications to support campus security operations. They will launch the campus mass notification system for emergency warnings and timely notices. They will also collaborate with Ingham County 911 dispatch on law enforcement unit dispatching related to campus safety and security. Find a list of all responsibilities on the MSU Careers website.

The future Security Operations Coordinator should have a four-year degree in intelligence analysis, criminal justice or a related field. Their working knowledge should include one to three years of experience in overseeing intelligence data collection and analysis and strategy development.
