This position will supervise the Power & Water Instrument & Controls (I&C) Maintenance Department, which reports to the director of utilities. Additional responsibilities include direct supervision of skilled trades I&C technicians; coordinating activities of the assigned MSU Information Technology Services specialist; recruiting, hiring, evaluating, and training staff; resolving employee complaints and grievances; assisting in reviewing departmental budgets and developing financial projections and expenditures of funds; participating in long-range planning for departmental operations; and more. You must be able to demonstrate a willingness to build good relationships through strong interpersonal skills to achieve objectives through mutual participation.

The ideal candidate will have Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational, trade, or business school with coursework in a skilled trade or Business Management; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, management and in one or more of the skilled trades areas including electrical, mechanical, automotive, carpentry, upholstery, and plumbing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require the following licenses: Elevator Contractor’s License, Master Plumber License, Certified Mechanic License, Master Electrician License, or a Class S- 1 Operators License.

Job of the Week: Laborer I

This week’s job of the week posting is for a Laborer I (Posting #694061) for Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF). IPF provides services like assisting in event coordination, landscaping, planning, design and construction, recycling, and more.

As a Laborer I, you will be responsible for performing, leading, and assisting seasonal staff in a variety of manual labor tasks related to general landscape, plant and tree care, preservation, and golf course maintenance and tournament/event setup operations as part of Forest Akers Golf Course. Other responsibilities include operating snow-removal vehicles and equipment, assisting in monitoring work areas to assure compliance with safety precautions, among others. The position is expected to work 40 hours per week from approximately April to November at $17.76–$18.69 per hour. This position is also expected to work at least every other weekend. Additional benefits are included as well as the possibility of working November through April 2022.

The Laborer I must drive a University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification. Ideal candidates must have a valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license and possess or attain MSU Forklift operator’s permit prior to completion of applicable probation or trial period. The candidate must also possess of attain a valid Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification in categories Turf (3A), Ornamental (3B), and Right of Way (6) within 6 months of hire date.

The ideal candidate also has a background (at least 1 year experience) in golf course maintenance, sports field turf maintenance or strong equivalent background in similar agricultural or construction equipment work.

Job Feature: DEI Communications Manager

As the University continues its work related to diversity, equity and inclusion, MSU’s Media and Public Information department is currently seeking a DEI Communications Manager (#669421) for University Communications. This position will serve as the lead communications professional for the unit and will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to communicate MSU’s broad commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as among the institution’s highest priorities.

The Communications Manager will additionally be responsible for assisting University Communications and other university units to facilitate appropriate messaging throughout MSU’s communications infrastructure to communicate key diversity and inclusion themes. The Communications Manager will also perform media relations functions including monitoring coverage on key initiatives and issues, assisting with issues management and media responses, coordinating and implementing media events and developing and writing news releases.

Preferred education, experience, and/or skills include knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in journalism, communications, public relations, English, or a related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in communications, public relations, or a related field in higher education, an agency environment, or a large, complex organization; equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ideal candidates would possess a minimum of five to ten years of professional experience developing and executing integrated strategic communications programs in a fast-paced PR or marketing agency or working closely with an agency to achieve strategic communications objectives; and demonstrate mastery of high-quality, professional-level project management, planning and conceptualization, plan execution, and results assessment; with particular emphasis on diversity and inclusion programs and projects, directed at both internal and external audiences, among other qualifications.

Job of the Week – Information Technologist II

This week’s job of the week posting is for an Information Technologist (Posting #648494) for the Facility for Rare Isotype Beams (FRIB). FRIB is a new scientific accelerator facility for nuclear science funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC), Michigan State University (MSU), and the State of Michigan.

This position will be responsible for managing and maintaining the linux infrastructure, purchasing, deployment, security, automation, upgrades, and documentation. Research and pursual of new opportunities and technologies in areas of responsibility that add value to the laboratory will also be expected of this position.

Job of the Week – Training Coordinator/Counselor

This week’s job of the week is a Training Coordinator/Counselor (Posting #647509) for the Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) department. CAPS provides a wide range of mental health services for students on campus, including and not limited to: screening/triage appointments, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, outreach and multicultural engagement, clinical care coordination, intensive integrated clinical services, and hospitalization coordination and support.

CAPS invites applicants for a full-time master’s level Mental health clinician (i.e., Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, etc.) who functions as the Master’s Internship & Practicum (MIP) Coordinator to join their growing team. They are a diverse and multidisciplinary staff who strive to use multicultural and collaborative approaches to provide quality care. Moreover, they work to connect each student with the most appropriate and available resources and services within CAPS.

This position will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychotherapy services at CAPS for students such as: screening/triage, individual counseling, group services, and advocacy and crisis intervention services. As part of a multidisciplinary health team, they will also work with other staff members to establish appropriate plans of care. Additionally, the Staff Counselor/MIP Coordinator will coordinate and assist the Training Director in further development and implementation of the MIP Training program at CAPS.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor’s degree work, such as a master’s degree in Counseling or Psychology and one to three years of more expansive work experience in counseling in a clinic or agency environment.
