This week we are highlighting an Administrative Associate I/S position with Pediatrics & Human Development in the College of Human Medicine (Posting #8412).  Reporting directly to the chairperson, responsibilities span the administration of the educational, research and clinical outreach missions of the department to support and facilitate the operations, sustainability and growth of the department. This position provides executive-level counsel to the chairperson regarding the development of strategic goals and financial planning, university policies and procedures, and compliance with regulatory agencies; assists the chair in developing new business opportunities, plans for faculty recruitment and retention, new programs and research collaborations; leads the implementation of the department’s strategic efforts; manages the administrative personnel and oversees the fiscal activities for the department; develops financial targets and operating indicators; creates and reconciles comprehensive and mission specific budgets; analyzes data and develops forecasting reports; negotiates contracts while developing and maintaining positive and effective relationships with partners and external agencies. This position is home-based on the East Lansing campus but requires frequent travel to Grand Rapids and Flint in order to assist the chairperson with building and coalescing a state-wide department.

This week we are highlighting an Research Administrator II/S position with the Department of Agriculture Food & Resource Economics in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Posting #8358). This position serves as the manager of the Food Security Group, which includes a team of two co-directors, nine faculty members based on campus, twelve based elsewhere in U.S. or overseas, three support staff, technical staff and several graduate students; supervises and manages work flow of support staff within the office; assists in developing policies and procedures for operational activities and administrative functions of the Food Security Group (FSG); assists FSG Co-Directors and faculty with the coordination and financial administration of FSG project grants and sub-agreements; manages personnel appointments, reappointments and salary distributions; serves as liaison between sponsor/funding source and PI; facilitates the administration, monitoring and financial management of complex research projects; coordinates project account closeout activities and develops final reports; assists in development and coordinates the implementation and provision of research compliance process components, including budget review and justification; coordinates the preparation of reports, documents and correspondence for regulatory agencies, participating research sites and internal purposes; provides training to entry-level PIs and administrative assistants on grant submission, research processes and paperwork; clarifies roles and corrects research processes; and applies appropriate regulations.

This week we are highlighting a Project/ Event Coordinator with the Human Medicine Dean’s Office (Posting #8136).  The College of Human Medicine (CHM) Office of Research supports and promotes health and biomedical research across the CHM statewide campus as well as collaborative research across disciplines, colleges, and communities. Increasingly this includes global research, for example, the College’s growing effort with Accordia Global Health Foundation, and public health issues including major new initiatives in Flint in collaboration with the Mott Foundation. The Project/Event Coordinator for the Office of Research will coordinate, support, and manage programs and activities for the Office that will fulfill our missions in research, public service and public health as described. This position will organize and coordinate meetings, conferences, workshops and other events that may span departments, colleges, community partners, national partners, and global partners and includes preparation of agendas, communication across constituencies, and coordinating global travel for MSU employees and other stakeholders that may involve passport and visa issues; will also keep accurate records of all meetings and other events in order to ensure expedient follow up as necessary, compile information, write reports, reconcile expenses against budget, and other duties in support of the Office of Research and the CHM Dean’s Office may be assigned as necessary. This position is located on the East Lansing campus but frequent travel to other CHM campuses, particularly Flint and Grand Rapids, is required.
