Thank you veterans!

U.S. flag
“Armistice Day” became Veterans Day in 1954.

MSU Human Resources extends its gratitude to all veterans that have served and defended their country in the U.S. military. It is impossible for those who never served to understand the experiences of the men and women who have, but Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to recognize their sacrifice and bravery.

We especially thank veterans at MSU, including students, faculty and staff, for choosing to join the MSU community after your service for the United States.

If you are a veteran, consider self-identifying as one in EBS. To do so, visit the Personal Information link under your ESS tab. Self-identifying allows MSU to send specific information that pertains to you as a veteran.

Veterans, let the Greater Lansing community serve you today! An abundance of businesses across the country thank veterans by offering free food and discounted services to them, and East Lansing is no exception. Eat out at your favorite restaurant or try a new one this Veterans Day.

Thank you REHS!

It’s been a month of settling in, meeting new people and adjusting to the rigor of academics for new and returning students. The semester kicked off with the packed, crazy and exciting series of days that is student move-in. This event is highly coordinated, requiring intensive planning to ensure a smooth move-in process for everyone.

Residence Education and Housing Services has been there to provide students with outstanding residence halls, engaging activities and a wide array of resources that are especially important for freshmen. For many in this group, this has been the longest time they have been away from home, which makes the efforts of REHS that much more vital to ensure they feel welcome in this new environment.

Thank you, REHS, for making MSU a second home for our students!

Thank you Veterinary Medical Center!

It’s time to recognize the Spartans that take care of our furry best friends!

The Veterinary Medical Center is open to everyone in the MSU community, for normal appointments and emergency situations. Its emergency room is open 24/7 for both large and small animals. We are grateful that the Veterinary Medical Center is always there just in case a beloved pet needs urgent medical treatment.

At this animal hospital, MSU employees have nearby access to more than 20 specialty services, including rehabilitation, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, dentistry and more.

MSU employees can be certain that their dog, cat, or other furry, feathered or scaled companion receives excellent care. Vet Med has a strong team of veterinary specialists, who have completed additional training that allows them to consult and treat animals within a specific area of medicine. These specialists have passed examinations to verify their skills and knowledge in that specialty.

Vet Med takes training and education very seriously. Similar to a human medicine teaching hospital, interns and students observe and participate while animal patients are treated by board-certified specialists and veterinary residents.

Thanks, Veterinary Medical Center! The MSU community appreciates your dedicated care and treatment of our much-loved pets.

Thank you Spartan Linen Services!

Spartan Linen Services keeps MSU looking fresh with expert cleaning and embroidering skills. The employees at Spartan Linen Services clean (literally) tons of laundry and linen with the assistance of industrial-sized machines.

Spartan Linen Services is located on Service Road

The service even transports the dirty and cleaned linen around campus. It also partners with off-campus customers, such as Central Michigan University.

From this one-stop-shop MSU employees can have work attire, such as lab coats or culinary uniforms, embroidered or silk screened with logos and names. They can purchase regular clothing items such as T-shirts, rain gear hats and more from popular brands. Spartan Linen Services also cleans and rents out beautiful napkins and tablecloths. Students have this service to thank as well for free bed and towel linen trades in the residence halls.

Thank you Spartan Linen Services! After spending the day among tablecloths, coats, sheets, detergents and machines, know that the MSU community feels confident in your abilities and appreciates your work.

Thank you Controller’s Office

The Controller’s Office manages MSU’s finances, and is behind every paycheck received by faculty and staff. That may be the favorite feature of this department, but the Controller’s Office is essential for innumerable university functions.

There are many rules, policies and laws that the Controller’s Office must ensure are being followed by the university, its students and its employees. In total, that’s about 60,000 individuals! Its mission is to provide world-class fiscal integrity and service while facilitating MSU’s world-class instruction, research, and public service.

The Controller’s Office performs many services, such as managing business traveling expenses, providing online calculators to estimate tuition, coordinating the MSU Manual of Business Procedures, which outlines policies and procedures regarding proper university business fund allocation, and so on.

In short, the good people at the Controller’s Office meet the constant financial needs of the MSU community. They pay attention to the nitty-gritty details that are vital to the university’s continued world-class fiscal reputation and strive for accuracy and integrity in their work.

Thanks Controller’s Office! You’re a good friend to Human Resources, and we definitely appreciate you!

Thank You MSU Extension

Michigan State University Extension helps people improve their lives through an educational process that applies knowledge to critical issues, needs and opportunities.

MSU Extension serves as an outreach mechanism that engages the MSU population existing beyond East Lansing. This network has actively bettered the lives of countless individuals, communities and businesses for over a century. In the early 1900s, “demonstration agents” taught cutting-edge farming or homemaking techniques. Today, Extension agents cover a variety of disciplines in 83 counties.

MSU Extension hosts a variety of events including a vegetable production workshop, nurturing parenting courses and a Diabetes Prevention Program, to name a few. With branches in 4-H, agriculture, business, food and health, lawn and garden, and natural resources, MSU Extension’s depth and breadth is sweeping. View an interactive map that illustrates the great impact that Spartans leave on the state of Michigan.

Thanks, MSU Extension! The work that you do allows MSU’s impact to reach beyond campus by positively influencing the entire state of Michigan.

Thank You MSU Student Food Bank

The MSU Student Food Bank, a partnership between MSU Student Health Services, the Council of Graduate Students, the Greater Lansing Food Bank and Feeding America, was the first campus-based food assistance bank in the country. In 1993, the food bank’s founders recognized a problem that many other universities fail to acknowledge; some students face food insecurity on a regular basis. Still operational 22 years later, the MSU Student Food Bank’s goal is to cut grocery bills in half.

At the MSU Student Food Bank, your donation goes a long way.
At the MSU Student Food Bank, your donation goes a long way.

While the holiday season is over, the MSU Food Bank’s giving spirit has not diminished. Each semester, the food bank holds multiple distribution evenings. During distribution evenings, 15 to 20 students help package food, stock shelves and generally serve MSU students, both graduates and undergraduates, as well as their families.  The bank distributes an impressive 50,000 pounds of food annually to students and their families. This month, the food bank will be holding two distribution dates; January 14 and January 28. Donations would be greatly appreciated prior to these events. To volunteer, contact the MSU Center for Service-Learning & Civic Engagement at 517-353-4400.

Thanks MSU Student Food Bank for all that you do!
