It may be chilly outside, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. To help save you from boredom, here are seven things to do at MSU during the winter.
1. Go skating at Munn Ice Arena
Munn Ice Arena offers public skating at various times throughout the week. It is $4 for MSU faculty and staff and $5 for the general public. Skate rentals are available for $2.
2. Attend a recital or symphony produced by the College of Music
The College of Music produces several live performances each year. Performances take place in the College of Music or at the Wharton Center. Some performances are even free of charge. A list of this year’s performances and show times are available on the College of Music’s website. A list of the College of Music’s free concerts is available here.
3. Take a walk along the Red Cedar River
This time of year the banks of the Red Cedar can offer a spectacular view. Stop by Sparty’s on your way there for hot cocoa or coffee, then take a stroll and enjoy the winter scenery.
4. Attend a lecture, film screening or musical performance at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum
The Broad Museum features a series of live events every month. Upcoming events include “Live Readings by the Broad MSU Writing Residents.” A full schedule of all the museum’s events is available on their website.
5. Go bowling at Spartan Lanes
6. Attend a play produced by the Department of Theatre
Each year, the Department of Theatre at MSU produces a variety of theater productions, including classical plays and original pieces written by students. The schedule for the current season is available on the Department of Theatre’s website.
7. Stay active during the cold months by exercising with Rec Sports
IM East is just one of many possible indoor walking and running facilities available in the East Lansing area. In addition to an indoor track, Rec Sports provides indoor gym areas, racquetball courts, volleyball courts, aerobics rooms, weight rooms and much more at IM East and IM West.
