With MSU summer camps and youth programs, students from elementary schools, middle schools and high schools have the opportunity to make new friends and learn about a variety of topics.

School will soon be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean learning has to stop. MSU hosts a wide variety of summer programs for kids of all different ages. These programs foster learning, generate social interaction and encourage a whole lot of fun. The range of programs and offerings are massive but most of them can be broken down into four main categories: Creative, Academic, Sports and Technology.

Creative

Kids and teens can get in touch with their creative side this summer. MSU’s summer camp programs in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences are designed for high school and middle school students. The camps cover subjects such as digital cinema, website design, 3-D animation, video game design and much more.

Academic

Children can learn more and build intellectual aptitude by enrolling in any of the summer academic programs offered at MSU. These programs feature lots of time outdoors for interaction with the fresh air and other exciting opportunities. Some of these programs include, “Green Science Adventure Camp.” This camp allows campers to experience science outdoors in an interactive, experiential setting.

In the “Bats, Bees and Butterflies” program, children spend a week outdoors, bond with farm animals and learn about different bugs.

There is also Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), a division of University Outreach & Engagement at MSU in partnership with the Honors College. The division runs different programs throughout the summer. One program is the CSI Forensic Science Program. Through a variety of educational presentations and hands-on experiences, students will learn how their acquired scientific knowledge can be applied to criminal investigation.

Sports

Kids and teens this summer can get an opportunity to expel energy, get healthier, learn sportsmanship and improve their games. MSU has a variety of sports camps available, including: baseball, basketball, cross country, diving, field hockey and many more.

Technology

Every day we’re surrounded by new technology, whether it be smart phones, computers or robotics. The inventors of these objects got their start somewhere and it could have been MSU. If you have a child that’s tech-savvy or just wants to learn more about technology or engineering then the technology based programs offered this summer could be the perfect fit.

These programs live in the College of Engineering and include “Introduction to Robotics Engineering at MSU.”  In this program participants learn about the fields of engineering involved in robotics and will work with NXT and VEX robotics, biomimetic robotic fish, nanorobotics, mechatronics and, manufacturing automation.

There’s also “Spartaneering LEGO Robotics,” which focuses on problem identification, team-building, communication, problem-solving, programming and competition using the NXT Robotics Invention System.

This list is just the beginning of the MSU summer camps available this year. To find out more about all the great offerings this summer at MSU visit MSU’s homepage and type “summer camp programs” in the search box or visit http://spartanyouth.msu.edu/.
