Remember, this Open Enrollment now covers health, dental and life insurance, along with Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and voluntary benefits. View the Open Enrollment Guide to see all of the details.

You need to complete Open Enrollment if you want to make any benefits changes to these plans for the 2014 plan year, or if you want to continue coverage for a spouse or Other Eligible Individual (OEI). (See the spousal/OEI affidavit instructions here if you only need to complete the affidavit and don’t want to make other changes.) There will not be any extensions to the time Open Enrollment is available.

Job of the Week 10/25/13

This week we are highlighting an Executive Staff Assistant position with the Libraries (Posting #8579). This position assists the Director of Libraries with day-to-day operations and administrative tasks; works in tandem with the business officer to manage all Main Office operations; serves as backup fiscal officer for the Libraries to analyze budgets, make recommendations, and monitor and approve financial expenditures as necessary; works in tandem with the fiscal officer to ensure that the Libraries are meeting fiscal objectives; prepares year-end reports, processes gifts, prepares gift acknowledgement letters and year-end endowment letters to donors, including the endowment activity report; deposits gifts and processes gifts of materials through the MSU Foundation; maintains donor filing system; reconciles monthly development account and the Development Officers’ p-card statements; prepares year-end payroll deduction acknowledgements; manages and coordinates the Libraries’ statistics and information gathering efforts, including preparing the annual report for the Association for Research Libraries; assists with gathering information needed for grant proposals and other major projects; coordinates updates to university publications and library policies and procedures, the Librarian Personnel Handbook and Bylaws, goals and objectives, mission, organizational chart and web pages on library committees; provides information to the administration, faculty, staff and external constituents regarding the Libraries; manages and coordinates travel by maintaining and updating library travel allocation balances, auditing travel reimbursements, approving expenditures of travel funds including registration payments, serving as a resource for questions regarding travel reimbursements; provides some clerical assistance for assistant directors; assists with and manages event planning as needed.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month and MSU Secure IT is celebrating. They want you to celebrate as well by making sure you employ the following tips to protect yourself online.

2. Perform regular operating system updates and software updates. These updates often include security patches.

Sharing the Road Safely at MSU

Bicycling is a part of life for the MSU community. Everyone needs to share the road and sidewalks safely. Remembering the roles of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists can make this process easier.

The Bicycle Patrol Unit and MSU’s bicycling ordinances are meant to help bicyclists share the road safely with motorists and keep pedestrians and skateboarders safe.

All across campus you’ll find tons of bike lanes designed to help bicyclists share the road with motorists and keep bicyclists off the sidewalks in the path of pedestrians. But on MSU’s campus a number of people still choose the sidewalk as the preferred method of travel while on a bicycle.

An MSU ordinance makes riding a bicycle on non-designated sidewalks and through crosswalks illegal and can result in a ticket.

During 2012 there were 17 bicycle accidents. These accidents included those on the sidewalks, single bike accidents, bike on bike and bike vs. pedestrian. Several required medics.

Whether you’re a faculty member, staff member or student, remembering MSU’s bicycling ordinances can make bicycling safer and more enjoyable.

This week we are highlighting an Administrative Assistant I position with the College of Communication Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office (Posting #8522).
