Congratulations to the Walking Route Photo Contest Winners!

Walking can provide the opportunity to take great pictures of wonderful scenery. The winners of our walking contest did just that. Three MSU staff members received pedometers for pictures they submitted that were taken while traveling along some of their favorite walking routes on MSU’s campus.

Find Healthy Foods and Baked Treats at Farmers Markets This Summer

Yummy baked goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and live music are just some of the great things you’ll find at farmers markets this summer.

Farmers markets are open in various cities across the state of Michigan and offer a variety of products to love. The East Lansing Farmers Market in Valley Court Park in East Lansing features live musical performances at their market every Sunday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Allen Street Farmers Market, located at the corner of Kalamazoo and Allen St. in Lansing, includes vendors with handmade soaps and fresh baked breads at their market every Wednesday from 2:30 – 7 p.m. The MSU Student Organic Farm Stand sells organically grown fruits and vegetables on Farm Lane in front of the Auditorium every Thursday from 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.  These are just some examples of the wonderful farmers markets to visit this summer. Celebrate Culture, Art and Food at the 2013 Great Lakes Folk Festival

An event that celebrates art, ethnic cuisine and diverse music, could be no other than the Great Lakes Folk Festival (GLFF), happening Aug. 9 -11 in downtown East Lansing.

GLFF is expected to draw 90,000 visitors over the three-day weekend. The festival will include opportunities to explore various cultural items, such as Celtic and Hmong music offerings, Middle Eastern and Thai foods, and Native American baskets. Take a Walk …. At MSU! (with a contest!)

Do you want to flex your legs, see amazing scenery and increase your energy? Then the Campus Walking Loops interactive map is just for you.

Campus Walking Loops  is an interactive map that displays walking routes across campus. The map lists the distance of each route to help you coordinate your walking schedule, along with emergency phones and campus art features. There is also a downloadable PDF version available on the website.

Enjoy Music Outdoors This Summer in East Lansing

Do you love the outdoors in the summer? What about music? Then you don’t want to miss the Summer Concert Series in downtown East Lansing, happening now through August 3.

The Summer Concert Series, is seven weekends of live outdoor music starting at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The concerts take place at the East Plaza on the corner of Albert Ave. and Charles St.

Explore Works of Art at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum

Accessing works of art is easier than ever with the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum on Michigan State University’s campus. The museum doors opened to the public and the MSU community in November 2012.

The museum is named for Eli and Edythe Broad, longtime supporters of MSU, who provided the initial funding support for the museum’s creation. The museum’s mission is to explore international contemporary culture. Broad currently houses more than 75 works of art, including international and contemporary artwork.

The museum was built by prize-winning architect Zhah Hadid. The museum’s building is made of pleated stainless steel and glass and covers 46,000 square feet.

The museum is located at 547 E. Circle Drive and their current hours can be accessed on their website.

Pack your bags, lace up your walking shoes and prepare for fun on your trip around the Greater Lansing area for the “Be a Tourist in Your Own Town” event on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., sponsored by the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“Be A Tourist in Your Own Town,” was started 19 years ago to increase community awareness of the different attractions in Greater Lansing and the tourism industry’s impact on the area. Every day through posters or TV campaigns we’re reminded to “go green.” Part of that includes “green cleaning,” which means using all-natural cleaning solutions and environmental-friendly techniques, such as recycling. These tactics reduce waste and protect the planet.

MSU Archives & Historical Collections Offers Great Services for You!

MSU Archives & Historical Collections (UAHC) offers great services to MSU faculty and staff.

UAHC’s record management is responsible for the management of the university’s inactive records, including the preparation of retention schedules for its administrative, fiscal, personnel and academic records. UAHC can assist your team in the efficient administration and management of official paper and electronic records of the university. MSU faculty and staff can take advantage of the ongoing support and training to the in records management, storage and retrieval to comply with all relevant state and federal laws and regulations available at UAHC.

The reading room within UAHC has kept historical materials preserved and secure, as well as readily available for public research. The documents available at the reading room include maps from throughout campus history, scrapbooks from alumni and class rivalry posters.
