Spring into summer with the Fresh Air Fitness series! Fresh Air Fitness is aimed at getting you active. No need to plan your workout session, just register and show up! Every day there are different activities going on around campus as part of the series. Segments include a 40-minute group exercise. Classes will begin at 12:10 p.m. – 12:50 p.m. Classes are free, but registration is recommended.

Monday: Tai Chi will be held at the Circle Courtyard (home of Summer Circle Theatre), located between the Auditorium Building and Kresge Art Center. Monday classes begin June 4.

Tuesday: Stride on Tuesday with Spartan Strides walking group at the Engineering Courtyard the West End. Classes begin June 5.

Wednesday: Yoga in the Garden will be held at the entrance to the Horticulture Gardens. Classes begin May 30.

Thursday: Pilates on the Green will be held at W.J. Beal Botanical Garden. Classes begin May 31.

Friday: Footin’ It on Fridays will be another chance to show off your strides with Spartan Strides walking group! Classes will begin June 1 at the Nisbet Front Entrance.

This week’s job of the week is an Athletic Equipment Coordinator (#507565) for the Intercollegiate Athletics department.

This position is seeking an individual to determine equipment needs and specifications, make budget recommendations, research products, and initiate paperwork for athletic equipment. Other responsibilities include receiving and issuing athletic apparel and supplies, meeting with manufacturer representatives and vendors, monitoring the correct equipment fitting and protection of athletes, among other duties.

The ideal candidate would possess knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in Physical Education, Athletic Administration or related field with relevant coursework in business; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in equipment management, purchasing and fitting at a Division I school; knowledge and experience working with computers and software applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Have you checked out the MSU Forest Akers Golf Courses? Forest Akers consists of two courses made in the 18-hole championship style located on the campus of Michigan State University. Both the East and West Courses are open to the public. Even if you are a beginner golfer you can still sign up for adult group classes and work your way up from there. You can also find other services such as instructional classes, programs for juniors, beginners, women only, and individual instruction. The professional staff at Forest Akers also uses TrackMan technology to provide custom golf club fitting for woods, irons, wedges, and putters.

This week’s job of the week is a Service Manager II (#506249) for Residential & Hospitality Services. This position is seeking an individual to direct the operations of Sparty’s Market with day to day operations of the grocery store.

The ideal candidate would possess knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree, a field related to the area of responsibility; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervising operational activities related to the area of employment.

Responsibilities for this role includes experience and education in grocery store management, category management, budget analysis, operational record keeping, and database software. The Service Manager should possess the ability to work in an extremely fast paced, highly mobile student guest environment and be able to collaborate with marketing and branding efforts. This individual should also have experience with point-of-sale systems, interviewing, training, scheduling, and knowledge of essential Human Resources functions.

The summer months on campus often mean fewer parking headaches, shorter lines at our favorite restaurants, and better weather for enjoying nature. At the same time, the summer also brings with it juggling coworkers’ vacation schedules and shifts in the focus of our work. Whether you’re in grounds maintenance and have to shift to new equipment and maintenance schedules, or are in an academic unit and preparing for summer programs and already busying yourself with fall planning, the summer might be a good time to try a flexible work arrangement.

Many unit leaders are already accustomed to shifting schedules around to maintain coverage while also honoring vacation requests. That means that flexibility is already at the front of the minds of managers and also our coworkers. The summer might be a great time for you and your unit to pilot a flexible work arrangement. That could mean anything from working four 10-hour days to teleworking one day per week, and lots of other options in between. This week’s job of the week is a Secretary III (#504817) in the Integrative Biology Department for the College of Natural Science. This position is seeking an individual to provide confidential clerical support to the department chairperson.

Responsibilities for this role include researching and collecting information to provide data requested by the chairperson, coordinating the appointment calendar, maintaining files, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and processing travel for the entire department. This person must be able to complete assignments with frequent interruptions.

The ideal candidate would possess knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an academic unit with word processing and spreadsheet software; ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet deadlines; self-starter whose strengths include problem solving, teamwork, attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

The 2018 Outstanding Supervisor Award is now accepting nominations. Is your supervisor a mentor to you? Does he/she help you pursue personal and work goals? Now is the time to nominate your supervisor for the 17^th Annual Outstanding Supervisor Award. This award is presented by the MSU WorkLife

Office to honor supervisors who have demonstrated positive leadership and support work/life needs of their employees.

• Allows flexible schedules
• Treats everyone with dignity, integrity and respect
• Promotes teamwork while supporting individual goals
• Has a people-first attitude
• Is a positive leader and empowers others

Reflect on how your supervisor pushes you to be great inside and outside of work and helps you pursue your goals. Nominate someone who serves as a role model and sets good examples for everyone.

Nominations are currently being accepted online now through Friday, June 29. The Outstanding Supervisor Award Committee will review the nominations, and nominators will be notified in late September. The Clerical–Technical Award is now open for nominations!

This award is given annually to a clerical-technical support staff member. The award is sponsored by the Thomas and Concettina Gliozzo Endowment Fund to recognize outstanding MSU clerical-technical employees.

Individuals may be nominated by any member of the MSU community. To nominate an individual you will need to complete a nomination form and collect a minimum of two support letters (maximum of five) by MSU colleagues. You may include additional information if it supports the applicant’s nomination. Selection criteria include respect and concern for all members of the campus community, diligence in daily work, significant contributions to the community or public service and innovative thinking.The recipient is selected from nominations received by the CT Recognition Award Selection Committee. The winner will receive the award at a special recognition reception, and they will also be awarded $1,000 in recognition of their outstanding service.

You have until Monday, June 25 to nominate your candidate. Nomination forms and more details are available on the HR website.
