Thank You MSU Horticulturists!

Ever take a stroll through a garden and become inspired and amazed at its beauty? If you’ve ever walked through the MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens you may have noticed how beautiful they are and it’s all thanks to the MSU Horticulturists.

Flowers in the MSU Gardens have never looked so good! It’s all thanks to the MSU Horticulturists.

MSU’s campus boasts several wonderful demonstration gardens such as the The Judith A. DeLapa Perennial Garden, The Amien Carter Annual Gardens, The Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden and many others. Horticulturists at MSU work year-round to arrange and maintain the gardens.

“I love working with the gardens because I see what they have to offer to our thousands of visitors – education, creativity, beauty and a sense of peace! A great combination and we get to help put it together,” said Art Cameron, director of the MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens.

Dedicated in 1993, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the current gardens. The MSU Horticulture Gardens had been in place for several decades before the dedication of the current MSU Gardens. The new MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens were created when the Horticulture department moved to the new Plant and Soil Science building on south campus.

The 20th anniversary also marks the recognition of hard work by the MSU Horticulturists to create spaces where the general public and MSU staff and students can relax, socialize and explore.

There are several events planned for this year to celebrate the anniversary including: the Spring Design Conference  on April 27, a plant sale to benefit the gardens on May 18, BeePalooza on June 23, the Anniversary Celebration Aug. 1 and Garden Day on Aug. 2. More information about all of these events can be found on the Department of Horticulture website.
