If you ever have to bring another vehicle on campus or you forget your parking validator, you may assume you’ll be getting a parking ticket. Luckily, there is a helpful option for those sticky situations! It’s called Calendar Permission.
MSU Police offers Calendar Permission one day out of each calendar month. It is issued in situations when you are driving a different vehicle for the day, or when you use the validator system and you’ve forgotten your validator. To receive Calendar Permission, call the Parking Office as soon as you arrive on campus at 517-355-8440, ext. 0. Let the phone operator know you need a Calendar Permission. The operator will ask for your name and the license plate number of the vehicle that you have on campus that day.
Your information will be entered into their system, but please note that you may still get a violation on your vehicle that day. As long you called in before the violation was issued and are parked legally, then you can just mail the violation to the MSU Police or visit their office. You would write your name on the violation and “Calendar Permission.”
Phones are answered between 7:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Calendar permission is issued for whichever parking privileges you have purchased. For more information, visit the MSU Police website.
Remember your Calendar Permission option so you can avoid an unwanted parking ticket!

Note that you can only use calendar permission once per month per vehicle, so if you carpool or have a spouse on campus – it doesn’t work to share calendar permissions.
Thanks for the helpful comment – that’s good information to know too!
