Veterans Day- Thanks for Your Service!

file000547064047Today, MSU Human Resources would like to recognize all veterans and thank them for their exemplary service, honor and bravery. It is because of our veterans that we are able to enjoy many of the freedoms that we do today. We send a resounding thanks to our veterans for their commendable patriotism and service. We salute you!

While Lansing’s Veterans Day ceremony took place this past Saturday, the community will celebrate our veterans in a variety of ways today in order to pay tribute. The Spartan Battalion Army ROTC cadets will visit area retirement homes to honor local veterans. There will also be a ceremony held at the Alumni Chapel at 3 p.m. In addition, as a special thanks, veterans will receive a 10% discount at the MSU Surplus Store.

Thank You MSU Bakers!

Gwen’s Bagels raise money for the American Cancer Society.

This month, we would like to thank MSU Bakers for making delicious treats for the campus community to enjoy! MSU Bakers offers a wide array of fresh-baked goodies that are perfect for any occasion. Additionally, their philanthropic efforts are commendable. Every October, MSU Bakers sells “Gwen’s Bagels”, pink-hued, ribbon-shaped bagels featuring a smattering of dried cranberries, created in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For every Gwen’s Bagels purchase, MSU Bakers donates one dollar to the American Cancer Society.

Every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., MSU Bakers  hosts a campus farm stand in front of “the rock”. The stand sells all types of sweet and savory baked goods, ranging from pepperoni pizza focaccia to miniature decorated cakes. Be sure to stop by soon as the stand will close on October 30. True to their charitable nature, for every loaf of bread sold, MSU Bakers donates one dollar to the MSU Student Food Bank.

Thank you MSU Bakers for baking delectable goodies and for giving back to the community while doing it!

Thank You MSU IPU!

IPU Logo
Michigan State’s IPU does an exemplary job of aiding in regulation of utilities on campus.

This month, we are thanking an unlikely source that assumes an integral campus role. Michigan State University’s Institute of Public Utilities (IPU) engineers research and educational opportunities that help regulate public utilities, both effectively and efficiently. More importantly, all policies that the institute implements are carried out sustainably and with the general best interest in mind. As outlined in the institute’s Mission Statement, “IPU’s guiding philosophy is that regulation is well served by university-based research and education.” Public utilities, including electricity, natural gas, water, and telecommunications, are vital in keeping campus operational, thus illustrating the importance of a program such as IPU.

Kudos IPU, thank you for your thoughtful diligence in aiding in regulation of MSU’s utilities!

Thank You MSU IPF!

MSU sign
MSU’s sprawling campus is bursting with beauty and life, largely due in part to IPF!

This month, we would like to extend a warm thank you to the department that maintains the physical aspects of MSU’s campus, Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF). From general services to construction and renovation projects, IPF works diligently to ensure that our surroundings on campus remain in superior condition. The department also repairs vehicles and provides exemplary recycling and reuse services. IPF enhances MSU in ways far greater than purely cosmetic, however. The department’s reliability and open communication tactics have truly ascertained its position as an invaluable component of Michigan State University.

Here’s to you, IPF! Thanks for all that you do.

The MSU Observatory offers multiple opportunities to stargaze throughout the year.

After going through a closure in previous years and being reconstructed, the current MSU Observatory opened in 1986. In 2004, a grant from the National Science Foundation PREST program and financial support from the Department of Physics and Astronomy funded the renovation of the observatory. The telescope in the observatory was updated in 2005.

The MSU Observatory is known for its open house nights, where members of the public can stargaze for a couple of hours. Between 1986 and 2008, 32,000 members of the general public attended an observatory open house night.Continue Reading… Thank You MSU Observatory
