Job of the Week 10/13/17

This week’s job of the week is a Medical Technologist I with the MSU Health Team in the histocompatibility laboratory. In this lab, general responsibilities include molecular HLA typing, antibody testing on the Luminex, flow cytometry crossmatch testing, and general quality assurance.

Eligible candidates for this role will have completed a four-year college degree program in Medical Technology and one year internship at an approved institution laboratory; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis and coagulation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and certification as a Medical Technologist or eligible as MT(ASCP) or CLS (NCA). Another desired qualification includes one year of pertinent laboratory experience and CHT (ASHI) certification.

New Online Resources in elevateU!

The online learning platform elevateU has a new MSU Highlighted Program available to all MSU faculty and staff called “Building a High Performing Work Culture”. This program is filled with courses, videos, books and more to help all levels of MSU faculty and staff increase their professional and personal development. The resources cover a range of topics, with anything from dealing with workplace conflict to creating formulas in Excel.

Along with the new MSU Highlighted Program, elevateU has a new look with an updated graphic identity and homepage. Click one of the tiles on the homepage to go directly into the “Building a High Performing Work Culture” program. Tiles are grouped into categories to allow for easier access to key resources. Job of the Week 9/1/17

This week we are highlighting a Senior Purchasing Agent/Supervisor with the Purchasing Department. This position supervises a team of procurement professionals responsible for a broad range of commodities and services. In addition, this position conducts complex procurement and contractual assignments. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Procurement, the Senior Purchasing Agent formulates specifications for unique, multi-faceted, and/or large-scale purchases with a value up to $500,000; processes sealed bids, RFIs, RFQs and RFPs; negotiates, approves and administers contracts; processes purchase orders with related documentation; and ensures compliance with university policies and procedures along with federal and state requirements and all applicable laws.

Job of the Week 8/25/17

This week we are highlighting a Police Officer (posting #457691) with the Michigan State University Police Department. MSU Police officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct while protecting the MSU community and taking proactive measures to prevent crime. Officers patrol a nearly 13 square mile campus mixed with urban and rural elements. Community policing is strongly emphasized through a neighborhood model to enhance the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors. Why Leave Campus When You Can Eat at State

It’s no secret that the dining halls on campus serve excellent food. Faculty and staff members have the opportunity to purchase dining plans so that they can enjoy the convenience of staying on campus and eating at one of the many dining halls. For those who want to purchase a dining plan, it’s important to note that the rate will increase this year to $6.75 per meal on August 19. You can learn more about the faculty/staff dining plan on the Eat at State website.

Speaking of the Eat at State website, it was recently transformed to provide a better user experience and an updated design! Be sure to take a look. You can find information about dining hours, dining plans, events and more. When you visit the homepage, use the “MENU” button in the upper right corner to navigate through the site, or scroll down a little to access dining hall menus and more. The new site is also mobile friendly, so feel free to visit on your phone if it’s more convenient.

If you do decide to stay on campus to eat, you can now visit Sparty’s Market or Starbucks at 1855 Place, open 7 days a week, 7 a.m.-9 p.m. These two retail locations opened for business August 1, and they are conveniently located at the corner of Kalamazoo St. and Harrison Road. The market and café are perfect if you want to grab a quick lunch or need a little caffeine to get you through the day. You can learn more on the Eat at State website.

Job of the Week 8/11/17

This week we are highlighting a Communications Coordinator (posting #455826) with the MSU Alumni Association. Reporting to the MSU Alumni Association Marketing and Communications Director, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and overseeing the creation of promotional materials and brand identity for the MSU Alumni Association programming, events and activities through the development, design, creation and production of various mediums (paper, electronic, web, etc.) The Communications Coordinator will participate as a member of the MSU Alumni Association administrative team to articulate design priorities, receive information and communicate project status. The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for a book of work that may include projects such as Grandparents University, MSU Homecoming Week events and activities, MSU Travel programs, Alumni University, the President’s Graduation Receptions, Sparty Mascot Program, athletic related events such as Bowl Game Tours, Championship Tournaments, MSU Ring March and Alumni Engagement Activities.

Orientation for New Faculty and Academic Staff

Are you a new faculty or academic staff member? First of all, welcome to Michigan State University! We are happy to have you here and hope that you will love working at MSU.

To help your transition, the Academic Advancement Network (AAN) has organized an orientation event on August 22, 2017 at the Kellogg Center. There will be two identical sessions: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The Morning Program will take place from 8:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. (Continental Breakfast 7:45 a.m. – 8:15 a.m.) with the luncheon from noon – 1:30 p.m. and the Information Fair available from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. The Afternoon Program will start with the Information Fair available from 10:30 a.m. – noon, followed by the luncheon from noon. – 1:30 p.m. then the orientation session from 1:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

There are two sessions available so that you can select the timing that best matches your availability. No matter which session you choose, you are still invited to attend the midday luncheon. Find more information about this orientation on the AAN website.

The Academic Advancement Network (AAN) is hosting an orientation for new faculty and academic staff members on August 22, 2017 at the Kellogg Center.

In addition to the orientation on August 22, there will also be supplemental orientation programs offered to new faculty and academic staff members. Campus Construction Update: What you need to know before the new academic year

As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, you may have noticed that some of the summer construction projects are starting to wrap up. For your convenience, we’ve compiled a list of the projects that are completed, those that will be finished by the end of the summer and those that will continue into the academic year.

Parking Lot Projects

  • Lots 83, 89, 91 and 100 will have portions closed over the summer for solar carport installation. Construction will be completed December 2017.
  • Lots 86, 93 and 104 will have portions closed over the summer for utility installations. Construction will be completed December 2017.
  • Lot 92 will have portions closed through the Fall 2017 semester for solar carport installation. Construction will be completed December 2017.
  • Lot 90 is offline.
  • Lots 79 and 63E will be closed entirely until August 21.
  • Lot 63W is now open.

Building Construction and Renovations

  • Construction has begun on the new Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building. Construction traffic will be heavy on Service Road.
  • Construction of the Business College Complex Pavilion is underway. Sidewalks to the south side of the Eppley Center have been closed to pedestrians.
  • Installation of windows in Hubbard Hall is complete.
  • The IM West HVAC replacement project is underway and will be completed September 2017.
  • Engineering Research Complex construction is underway. There will be increased construction traffic and noise in the area (South Academic District).
  • Renovation of room E100 and the corridor in the Veterinary Medical Center is underway. Through August, the west corridor will still be closed to through pedestrian traffic and there will be increased construction traffic at the northwest drive.
  • Bessey Hall first and second floor renovations are underway and will be completed mid-August.
  • Renovations to Olin Student Health Center are complete.
  • The 1855 Place Project is underway. Retail spaces opened in early August and the office spaces will open October 2017.
  • Construction in the Breslin Center and Spartan Stadium is ongoing.
