In order to keep\u00a0the I-9 \u00a0procedure running as smoothly as possible, please keep these tips in mind when\u00a0processing international employees:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>International employees cannot use an &#8220;unclean&#8221;\u00a0social security card. &#8220;Unclean&#8221; social security cards will display the phrase &#8220;VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION&#8221;. \u00a0<strong>Do not<\/strong> accept &#8220;unclean&#8221; social security cards as valid documentation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Very few employees fall under the non-citizen U.S. national category. Only those born or with ties to the outlying U.S. possessions of American Samoa and Swains Island are born as non-citizen United States nationals. Verify if these characteristics\u00a0apply before accepting an I-9 with non-citizen U.S. national citizenship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7963\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7963\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/uncleansoc.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7963 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/uncleansoc.png?resize=300%2C197\" alt=\"This social security card cannot be used as a supporting document for the I-9 form. \" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/uncleansoc.png?w=549&amp;ssl=1 549w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/uncleansoc.png?resize=300%2C197&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Unclean social security cards CANNOT be used as a supporting document for the I-9 form.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees must present one piece of documentation from List A or one piece of documentation from List B accompanied by one\u00a0piece of documentation from list C.
