Items the program focuses on include: cigarettes, cigars, patches and e-cigarettes.

Health4U has one of the most successful tobacco/nicotine cessation programs in the country, as measured by a 15-month sustained cessation rate of over 27 percent.

Participants of the program enjoy many benefits when they quit smoking and stop using nicotine products, including fresher breath, whiter teeth, better breathing, and more money to spend on the things they enjoy.

More than 20 program participants have been nicotine free for a year or more and come from various walks of life at MSU, including faculty, staff and graduate assistants.

MSU supports the use of personal, vacation or sick accruals to participate in the program, though it is up to individual departments and supervisors to determine the procedure for the use of that time. The prescription medications used in the program Chantix® or Zuban® (Bupropion) is now a covered benefit for MSU employees.

An orientation session for the program will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in room 247 of the Olin Health Center. Advanced registration is required. Attending the orientation does not commit attendees to enroll in the program, but instead serves as an informational session to provide a comprehensive overview of the program. To register for the program, employees and their adult benefits-eligible family members should call 517-353-2596 or send an email to Health4U@msu.edu.

Detailed information about the program is available on the web at: http://health4u.msu.edu/breathe_easy_msu.htm.

The MSU Breathe Easy: Tobacco and Nicotine Cessation program is lead by licensed professionals and sponsored by the Office of the University Physician-Health4U Program, Human Resources and Student Health Services.

Check out the success stories of past program participants in the video below!

There’s no better way to start the New Year then to decide to quit smoking.
