In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day<\/a> on Monday, January 21, the MSU community has scheduled a few days of free events to commemorate MLK\u2019s work and legacy. This year\u2019s theme is “The Road to Social Justice Begins with One Step.”

Social Justice Films and Dialogue<\/b>: “The Loving Story”, 7 p.m., Main Library North Conference Room (4th Floor West)<\/p>\n

Saturday, January 19, 2013 <\/b><\/p>\n

“Showtyme @ MSU”<\/b><\/a>: A family-friendly and educational event where students perform their many talents in front of a panel of judges and enthusiastic audience. 8 p.m., International Center.<\/p>\n

Sunday, January 20, 2013 <\/b><\/p>\n

“Jazz: Spirituals, Prayer & Protest”:\u00a0 <\/b>Musical expressions of the struggle for social justice, equality and civil rights performed by the Professors of Jazz and students in the Jazz Studies Program<\/a>. 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Wharton Center.<\/p>\n

Monday, January 21, 2013<\/b><\/p>\n

“Into the Streets\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/a>: An opportunity to actively engage in community service activities.<\/p>\n

Social Justice Films and Dialogue<\/b>: “The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow: Promises Betrayed (1865\u20131896),” noon\u00ad\u20131 p.m. Main Library Reference Instruction Room (1st Floor)<\/p>\n

The Commemorative March to <\/b>Beaumont <\/b>Tower<\/b>:\u00a0 This is your opportunity to follow their lead by participating in this historic event. Organizations are encouraged to bring their organizational banners to the march. Starts at 3 p.m. at the MSU Union Building.<\/p>\n

East Meets West: The Transgender Community of Istanbul<\/a><\/b>, Exhibit opening, Monday, January 21, 4 p.m.\u20135:30 p.m., MSU Museum Heritage Gallery.<\/p>\n
