Vacations are for rest and relaxation, but it&#8217;s important to be prepared before leaving your home for any amount of time. Here are some tips to keep you, your home and your belongings safe!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Protect your home<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put a hold on mail and any deliveries while you&#8217;re gone or have a neighbor pick them up.<\/li>\n<li>Set some household lights on a timer.<\/li>\n<li>Have a neighbor park in your driveway to look like someone is home.<!--more--><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pack lightly<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Only bring the essential items &#8211; clean out your purse or wallet to lighten your load.<\/li>\n<li>Keep a record of anything valuable you bring along, including jewelry, medicine and electronics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stick together<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/beach_sign.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3098\" title=\"Beach_Sign\" alt=\"Beach Sign\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/beach_sign.jpg?resize=211%2C300\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/beach_sign.jpg?w=348&amp;ssl=1 348w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/beach_sign.jpg?resize=212%2C300&amp;ssl=1 212w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/beach_sign.jpg?resize=282%2C400&amp;ssl=1 282w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid going anywhere alone &#8211; always walk around in groups, especially in someplace new.<\/li>\n<li>Check a map before you go anywhere. Become familiar with your surroundings in case of any emergency.<\/li>\n<li>Stay in well-lit areas at night.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stay healthy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.<\/li>\n<li>Protect your skin by wearing SPF, a hat and sunglasses.<\/li>\n<li>Eat right and stay active on your trip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Watch out for viruses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The FBI has<a title=\"Forbes Article on Malware\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/adriankingsleyhughes\/2012\/05\/09\/fbi-beware-of-malware-installed-via-hotel-networks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> recently reported <\/a>that a number of malicious software viruses are being pushed through hotel internet connections. The malware comes across as a common software update for cell phones and other products. To avoid downloading viruses or malware, the FBI recommends:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carrying out all software updates before traveling.<\/li>\n<li>Checking the author or digital certificate of any prompted update to see if it corresponds to the software vendor.<\/li>\n<li>Downloading software updates directly from the vendor\u2019s website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more vacation tips, ask your local police station or search online for tips on your destination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rise in temperatures means getting out of the office for that weekend or week-long getaway.
