{"id":14608,"date":"2019-10-15T10:00:57","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T14:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/?p=14608"},"modified":"2019-10-15T12:43:06","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T16:43:06","slug":"national-disability-employment-awareness-month-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sourcelive.hr.msu.edu\/?p=14608","title":{"rendered":"National Disability Employment Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>This is a guest post written by HR Accommodations Specialist, Cherelyn Dunlap<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michigan State University is a leader in cultivating a diverse and inclusive campus environment.&nbsp; During the month of October, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, led by the U.S. Department of Labor\u2019s Office of Disability Employment Policy.&nbsp; Held annually, this observance aims to raise awareness about disability employment issues and celebrate the many contributions of workers with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals with disabilities add\nsignificant value to the workplace, offering diverse perspectives on how to\ntackle challenges and achieve success.&nbsp;\nThis year\u2019s theme \u201cThe Right Talent, Right Now\u201d interconnects with the\nuniversity\u2019s core value of inclusiveness. &nbsp;It\nhighlights the unlimited possibilities that occur when barriers are removed for\nindividuals with differing abilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can you do to observe National Disability Employment Awareness Month?\u00a0 Strive to make all employees feel like they belong and are valued for their unique characteristics and perspectives.\u00a0 Also, realize that October isn\u2019t the only time we can engage and promote awareness of disability employment issues.\u00a0 We all play an important role in fostering a more inclusive workforce, one where every person is recognized for their abilities &#8211; every day of every month.
